EU seeks to diversify natural gas supplies

Many European countries have increased their reliance on natural gas to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change – yet this transition is not without its challenges. In 2021, the EU imported 45% of its gas consumption from Russia, which is its largest supplier. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU is seeking to diversify its gas supplies without derailing the transition to clean energy.
