The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has once again laid bare just how exposed Europe remains to fossil fuel import disruptions — with close to 60% of the continent's energy still sourced from oil, gas and coal. In a new analysis, Robeco's equity team argues that while the shock is painful in the near term, it is accelerating a structural shift toward electrification that will require over €660 billion in annual investment through to 2030. The scale of that commitment — much of it flowing into grid infrastructure, industrial electrification, and natural gas transition — is shaping up to be a decade-long investment cycle with identifiable equity beneficiaries across four key verticals.
